Spain Coast Guard Rescue Over 200 People From Sea

Spain said it had secured the rescue of over 200 migrants at the Mediterranean Sea on Sunday 29th July 2018.

Spain’s maritime and coastguard stated that a total number of 211 migrants from 21 different boats were saved, in the Strait of Gibraltar between Spain and Morocco.

According to reports, a spokesperson from the service noted the illegal immigrants would be taken to the port of Algeciras in Spain.

Spain has, however, recorded over 1,200 people attempting to cross from Morocco to Spain illegally, trying to cross the Mediterranean using skits.

Fernando Grande-Marlaska, the interior minister for Spain, will be meeting on Monday with his Mauritanian counterpart, to discuss and “strengthen cooperation with regards to immigration matters and the fight against terrorism.”
