Many residents of the Ibeju Lekki of Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday 8th Sept. Cried out following their loss to the Lagos flood, with lost items valued into millions of Naira.
The Ibeju-Lekki flood, however, has increased following persistent rainfall in the Lagos state of Nigeria. However, the poor state of drainage facilities across the nation has deteriorated and worsened the situation in this area.
Some of the residents, during an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the early morning heavy pour left many roads and houses in the Ibeju-Lekki area fully flooded.
RESIDENTS CRY OUT OVER IBEJU-LEKKI FLOOD:
Mr. Luqman Balogun who spoke with reporters said,
” We can neither go to our office nor stay at home comfortably now as the flood already destroys many of our valuables.
” I never believed we could be trapped by flood because we live in a predominant sandy area, due to the ocean proximity.
” What I have observed now is, there are no functioning drainage channels in Ibeju-Lekki, as we have in other parts of Lagos State,” he added.
Lagos Residence Lament Over Flood:
Some of the affected areas by the flood are Kajola, Lakowe, Majek first-gate area, Eleko, Awoyaya, and Oribanwa, says Mr. Balogun
the flooding has, however, affected commercial businesses in the area, as well as hotels and hospitals.
A resident, Mr. Seyi Bakare, also decried the poor condition of the Ibeju-Lekki High-way
He stated that the major road in the area had started to deteriorate severely with portholes, therefore causing massive traffic on the expressway following the rain.
