Empire star, Jussie Smollett has been indicted by grand jury in Chicago for felony.
The actor who has been in the news since January over the issue of a homophobic attack is being accused of filing a false report.
The indictment was issued by a Cook County Grand Jury on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, after a scrutiny of all the testimonies and evidence following the case.
Recall that earlier, the two Nigerian brothers involved in the attack were arrested and charged to court.
Following that, new reports came that the brothers, Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo confessed to staging that attack, alleging that Smollett actually paid them to get involved.
As a result of the indictment, Jussie Smollett might be facing jail term.
Reacting to the turnout of events, his lawyers, Todd Pugh, and Victor Henderson have released a statement, disclosing their plan to “conduct a thorough investigation and to mount an aggressive defense.”
