Former WWE star, Shad Gaspard, has been confirmed dead, three days after going missing while swimming at Venice Beach with his 10-year old son.
On May 17, Gaspard and his 10-year-old son, Aryeh were swimming 50 yards off the coast of the newly reopened Marina Del Rey beach when they got caught in a rip current and pulled out to sea.
When lifeguard arrived, Gaspard asked that his son, Aryeh be rescued first.
A personnel with the fire department’s Lifeguard Section reported:
“He was going to try to rescue both,”
“But the father, in his last few words, said, ‘Save my son.’”
The lifeguard returned to find that Gaspard, had disappeared under the waves before they could rescue him.
On Wednesday, the 39-year old’s body was spotted by a passerby who immediately notified the police.
Prior to discovering his body, the US Coast Guard, Los Angeles County lifeguards and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department had commenced a search which was eventually suspended on Tuesday afternoon.
In a statement released on Wednesday , WWE said it is “saddened” by the news of Gaspard’s death.
Tributes have also poured in from celebrities including former wrestlers Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Triple H.
Gaspard is best known not just for being a WWE star but also his acting roles in movies like “Think Like a Man Too” and “The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time”.
