Twitter has locked Donald Trump out.
President Donald Trump has been suspended permanently from Twitter “due to the risk of further incitement of violence”, the company says.
Twitter said the decision had to be made “after close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account”.
Recall that Trump was banned for 12 hours on Wednesday after his tweet referring to the mob who invaded the US Capitol as “patriots”.
The occurrence at the capitol that day led to the deaths of four civilians and one police officer.
Following Trump’s insensitive tweet, Twitter warned that he would be banned permanently if he breached the rules again.
The straw that broke the camel’s back came after the President was allowed back on Twitter and he made two new tweets on Friday.
“The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”
Next, he tweeted:
“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”
Twitter claims the first tweet “is being interpreted as further indication that President Trump does not plan to facilitate an ‘orderly transition'” , while the second is “being received by a number of his supporters as further confirmation that the election was not legitimate”.
According to the company, both tweets were “in violation of the Glorification of Violence Policy”.
For years, civilians, celebrities and even lawmakers have been asking that Trump be banned on Twitter, owing to his problematic behaviour on the platform.
Reacting to the suspension of the @realDonaldTrump account, Trump went straight to tweet from the official US President @Potus account.
“…Patriots who voted for me. Twitter May be a private company, but without the government’s gift of Section 230 they would not exist for long. I predicted this would happen. We have been negotiating with various other sites, and will have a big announcement soon, while we…
… also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future. We will not be SILENCED! Twitter is not about FREE SOEECH. They are all about promoting a Radical Left platform where some of the most vicious people in the world are allowed to speak freely…”
The tweets were deleted almost immediately.
President Donald Trump has just lost his access to his over 88 million followers and no one is show when he is getting it back.
